Arabella Gibbins – Senior Coach
When I was younger I had a stutter, which meant I sometimes had real difficulty getting my words out. I made up all sorts of tricks to get round it – replacing ‘danger words’ with easier words, cutting up sentences and swapping parts around to avoid the dreaded stuck feeling. I never had speech therapy as I just hoped it would disappear on its own. It was only when I trained as an actor at The Oxford School of Drama in my 20s that I learned some life-changing tools: breathwork, relaxation, alignment, and clear articulation. We delved into the sounds of the English language, discovered the musicality of speech, and fine-tuned our communication skills. Over time my voice became freer, fuller, and above all – trustworthy! I was eager to share what I’d found, and help other people access their full vocal potential.
I later completed a Master’s degree in Voice Studies with Distinction from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, where I was fortunate to train with some of the most eminent voice practitioners in the world. I continue to teach people from all walks of life, at every level, and the London Speech Workshop methodology provides a thorough and intuitive framework in which to explore and make exciting discoveries.
